Summer Crop Tops with Jade

I am fascinated by the return of crop tops in fashion these days. Unlike in my teenage years, they are now paired with high rise pants which I think is a much more flattering look than the low hip-huggers of the early 2000s. 

All the colors in this set are based on the Pantone 2021 Spring color scheme. 

You will need to cut along the dolls shoulders to fit these items on. I have put a dotted line there, but with the long dark hair it can be hard to see.

This steampunk paper doll was put together from a few older sets that I resized and new pieces. I loved these striped trousers and the hair and shoes from my first Sapphire Steampunk Doll. I love everything Victorian inspired. I have no idea if steampunk is still in, but I do very much enjoy drawing it. So, I hope it is.

My patrons on Patreon voted for the 1860s to be my next historical paper doll foray. (Join here if you’d like to vote next time.) I hadn’t drawn anything from this era in years, so I had some fun breaking out my costume history books, doing more research on 1860s fashion, and then crafting is 1860s fashion paper doll and her dresses. There’s another 1860s paper doll who will be the March exclusive for my Patrons.

A Valentine’s Day Paper Doll For 2021

Valentine’s Day is a holiday I always try to make a paper doll for, because of my grandmother who often sent Valentine’s Day cards with paper dolls in them to me and my sister. This paper doll has a small colorful mix and match wardrobe with some retro dresses and slip on shoes. Don’t forget to cut between the dolls shoulders and her hair, so the tabs fit better.

Ruby’s Summer Princess Gowns

I hope you all enjoy this fun foray into princess gowns. In 2021, my plan is to do monthly rather than weekly updates for all my Patreon folks (thank you for all being amazing) and try to them in the first week of the month.  We’ll all see how that plan works out together. It’ll be fun!

I chose to draw blue poppies on the ball gown, because I love blue poppies. They grow up in Alaska where I grew up and my mother always had some in her garden. Whenever I see them, they make me smile. 

They are, I’ve been told, pretty rare outside the colder temps we get up here. Ruby’s other gown is more of a “day” sort of dress I imagine. Of course, these are part of the Princesses and Their Gowns Collection which has been steadily updating for a long time.

Maybe because I saw Ever After at a young age, but I have a deep affection for Italian Renaissance inspired gowns and these are a few of them. Fantasy paper dolls rival historical paper dolls as some of my favorites to draw. This set of printable fantasy paper dolls is from my Dolls Du Jour series, lovingly known as DDJ. Named by a Patron (thank you!) these paper dolls are part of my goal to make some more curvy paper doll ladies. Each doll is named after a time or day, so this is Twilight.

While I am not an anime fan myself, I watch it occasionally with my partner. I’m always intrigued by the beautiful gowns worn in these shows. Often vaguely called, “ancient Chinese empresses” costumes, today’s paper doll gowns are mostly inspired by fantasy dresses on Pinterest like this one and this one. Personally, I don’t know my Chinese dynasty clothing well enough to really begin go try to pin down the source silhouette.

Opal’s beautiful up-do comes from the depths of my brain and doesn’t have much in the way of historical/cultural sourcing. I just like drawing absurd up-dos, as you have probably already figured out by now.

Today’s printable paper doll was a chance to explore a trend I was seeing in the winter fashion runways in 2020- a sort of riding habit inspired country estate look. Because so many of these pieces are solid, I opted to not stick to my usual very limited color palette. I gave Ruby glasses. I think she’s the first doll in this series to get glasses, so that’s something to be happy about.
