I really have very little to say about this paper doll and her clothing except that I am trying to do more skin tones with Marisole and I draw formal gowns when I can’t think of what else to draw. I have nothing witty nor intelligent to say about the paper doll beyond that. Enjoy her.
As sometimes happens, I can’t think of anything to really say about this paper doll. It’s the second page of the Jessica set and there will be one more. I’m fond of the teal dress, because I still like the bodice. Many of the pieces came directly from fashion magazines- the blue dress is one case- but some don’t and I think over all that weakens the paper doll. I wish I’d done either everything high fashion or kept it all more casual.
When I went to prom back in highschool, the dresses seemed to echo the movies of the time. Lots of Titanic-like high waists and layers of black net over red satin.
There was only one store to really buy a prom dress at and the women who owned it would only sell one of each style during the prom season, so that you could be assured you were wearing the only one of your dress at the dance.
These days, according to the internet, short styles are much more in fashion, but I had to draw a long traditional dress for my own preferences in that regard. All of these dresses are based on actual styles. Though I would never wear it, my favorite is the layer purple on with the strapless bodice. It’s very 1908’s which seems to be the decade that has come back to haunt us now. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
I like to think of Marisole as the love child of Halle Barry, a Bratz doll and possibly some sort of insect.
I actually drew this doll originally for the old incarnation of this site, but ended up never really doing much with her. I always liked her, and so I’ve decided to post one Marisole paper doll every Monday. I didn’t really mean for her to look like Halle Berry, but once I was done she really reminded me of her.
On a slightly unrelated note, there is snow on the ground and I am rather enjoying it. It’s so beautiful and white and it reminds me of home. I would much rather have it 20 degrees and snowing then have it be 14 degrees and not a flake on the ground. I’m not sure my poor snow covered car agrees with me though.
To go back to the paper dolls, momentarily, there will be another paper doll post on Wednesday and then a Florence on Friday. At least, those are my plans at the moment. They may change at any instant.
