I don’t remember where I found this pose, I think it was in a book on drawing fashion figures I picked up at the library. I do remember being very proud when I finished her. Now, I see all her flaws. I drew her when I was overseas in England in college, I think. I dated her as 2007, as that was the year I studied abroad.
Unless, I am suffering from some sort of delusion (which is totally possible) I seem to recall someone asking for a redheaded Marisole. I originally just kept the dusky skin tone I usually use and gave her redhead, but it clashed and looked really bad, so I decided I better change her skintone too. I’ve had a thing for redheads ever sense I saw Anne of Green Gables on television.

Sometimes, I can’t think of anything funny, witting or really happy to write here. I’m having a rough month. Still, there are always pretty paper dolls.
Oh, and this is one of those paper dolls that the websave photoshop feature kinda messed up the color. I do recommend downloading the pdf to get the full bright tones. I need to figure out a way around that… But not tonight.

So, sometimes I don’t know what to draw. On these occasions, I usually poll friends looking for ideas. In one night, I might get suggests ranging from “ballerina” to “mad scientist” or “snow day”. Obviously, I decided to go with the “snow day” suggestion and I was told that I “had” to add a snowball and a snowman, so Marisole gets her snowman and her snowball.
When I was a child, my favorite paper dolls had accessories. I don’t think I’m that good at drawing things other then people to do a lot of accessories, but even I can draw a snowball. I’d like to someday draw other accessories for Marisole. I think she needs a pet, but I can’t decide what kinda pet and drawing animals isn’t my gift. We’ll see.

So, I rambled on during the first post for this paper doll about the Pantone color trend books Spring 2010 and Spring 2009, so I will spare you that ramble. As I have said a lot of times, I have some trouble with colors. I think partly because I use the computer to color my dolls online, the colors tend to be hyper saturated and I don’t always like that, so getting to use the Pantone colors was a lot of fun.
Tomorrow, there shall either be steam or snow for Marisole… depending on which one I finish first, I think.
Secondly, here is today’s paper doll. She’s my first “short run” paper doll in full color which is kinda exciting. I was inspired to do her in color thanks to the Pantone color trends prediction. Pantone is a company that, basically, makes inks, paints, plastics… anything which involves color. They are known for being able to reproduce the same color across multiple mediums through a numbered mixing system. This is all rather unimportant, but what is important is that every year they create a color trend prediction based on what they (and designers they talk with) think will be the big colors of the season.
All of the paper dolls clothing’s colors come from the trend reports for Spring 2010 and Spring 2009. In some cases, I did lighten or darken colors slightly to allow for more contrast then was available through the colors as offered. And I do recommend downloading the PDF of this paper doll more then some others, since saving her for the web altered some of her colors.
Seriously, the Pantone website is like heaven for people who love color. And I do love color. I don’t understand it very well, but I think it’s awfully pretty.

Today’s paper doll is a bit late and I am sorry about that, but here she is in all her glory. I’m going to try to not miss any days this month, but I can’t promise to always be perfectly on time. Between graduate school, work and trying to have a social life, I’m afraid my lovely blog readers will just have to put up with the crazy time commitments of my life.

So, I’m kinda late here… okay… really late, but it’s still technically the third. As you might notice, I re-did the layout on the Curves dolls. I decided that I didn’t like how the layout looked and so I changed it. The old layout was too formal for how I thought of the Curves paper dolls. The paper dolls were inspired by people I knew who were unique funky and beautiful- but above all fun and interesting. The old layout too formal, so… I changed it.
And it make the paper dolls a little later then I had planned. I’m okay with this. The new Curves layout will be like this with a new doll for each set of paper dolls.
Unless I get really tried of drawing them… Cause you know, I am kinda fickle.

Recently, I read in a fashion magazine that the “ladies who lunch” look was in. Being from the wilds of the damp north-land, I’m not totally sure what it meant, but I suspect classic refined old money sort of clothing was the thing. Though I am not totally proud of how this set turned out, part of keeping a printable paper doll blog is being willing to accept that not very post is perfect.

I’d love to claim credit for these paper doll clothing designs, but most of them come from the store window of a clothing shop I walk past fairly often. Granted, I don’t dress like this (my look has been described as “little old man” with a dash of “sexy librarian”), but I do think some of the things in style right now are cute.
Not leggings. I can take or leave leggings, but I like the little fluffy skirts and the tunic tops.
Also, sweater vests. I do love me my sweater vests.
Yeah, maybe I do dress a bit like a little old man. I’m pretty much okay with that, really.
I like to think of Marisole as the love child of Halle Barry, a Bratz doll and possibly some sort of insect.
I actually drew this doll originally for the old incarnation of this site, but ended up never really doing much with her. I always liked her, and so I’ve decided to post one Marisole paper doll every Monday. I didn’t really mean for her to look like Halle Berry, but once I was done she really reminded me of her.

On a slightly unrelated note, there is snow on the ground and I am rather enjoying it. It’s so beautiful and white and it reminds me of home. I would much rather have it 20 degrees and snowing then have it be 14 degrees and not a flake on the ground. I’m not sure my poor snow covered car agrees with me though.
To go back to the paper dolls, momentarily, there will be another paper doll post on Wednesday and then a Florence on Friday. At least, those are my plans at the moment. They may change at any instant.
