Today’s Printable Paper Doll Inspirations: Tridents, Water and Ancient Greece
So, back in early April, I posted the first part of my Sorceress’ Gowns Project (I always come up with the most creative names.) In that intro post, I explained that I had a variety of potential long term projects, tossed them out to my Patrons and this was the winning idea.
I had kinda been hoping Space Princess would win the poll, but you can’t have everything in life. And nothing is stopping me from embracing Space Princesses as a future plan.
Anyhow, today’s sorceress gown is based on Water, just like my last gown was based on Fire. I wanted to pair fire and water with a similar ancient Greek influence. Mind you, this a very Hollywood idea of Ancient Greek clothing owing more to Xena: Warrior Princess than actual history.
I wanted to capture the shades of water I tend to think of which are not light blues. I tend to associate water with such a dark teal that it looks nearly black which is what I remember from Southeast Alaska where I grew up.
Her magical staff is based on a trident which is a nod to Poseidon, the Greek God of the Ocean. It’s probably not a very functional trident, what with the center prong being a jewel encrusted thing, but there you have it.
Consider following the facebook page if you want to show the blog some love.

I love how her shoes almost look like ice skates. The stormy/dark/almost wintery colors are great!
ha ~ i was going to say the same thing as Julie about the “skates”. AND the color scheme.
so i will add that i love the design on the sceptre. : D
Very cool outfit!
Loving this series so far, can’t wait to see what you do with the other elements!
Btw, are you just doing fire, water, earth and air, or are there going to be a few others besides those?
Well, my starting set is the Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, but I don’t have any intention to stop after those four are done. Of course, there will be other B&B outfits that aren’t part of the series that’ll go up too, so we’ll see where we end up.
Yay! I was SOOOO awaiting for this continuation 😀 Thanks! Enjoying it 😉
I too am enjoying this. (Although I do hope you will get to the Space Princess at some time.) If you are still looking for ideas to go with the sorceress theme, you might consider Outfits and Familiars. You’d get a chance to draw a familiar – cat, fairy dragon, imp, fairy rabbit, etc. – and an outfit inspired (textures, colors, patterned, etc.) by said familiar.
Then too there are Expanded Elements: Light, Dark, Ice, Wood, Metal, Celestial (sun, moon, planets, stars), and the Zodiac.
Those are great ideas. I find I am rarely short of ideas. I am often short of time. 🙂
I am totally going to do Space Princess, I just have to decide which paper doll series and find the time to start drawing it.
