Today’s Printable Paper Doll Inspirations: Loons and… well, Loons. That’s actually all I got.
Of all the dresses I designed for this week, the only one I was really worried people wouldn’t get was this one. Loons are beautiful birds for which I have always had a fondness, but they are hardly as well known as the Raven or the Flamingo. Interestingly enough, the Loon is the state bird of Minnesota, where my mother grew up. As a child, I had a puzzle my grandfather made featuring a loon, so I have fond associations with the birds.
Wig instructions are available if you’re not sure how to attach the back piece here.

Well, now that the week of bird masquerade gowns is wrapped, I am curious which one people liked the most. So, let me know in a comment. Was your favorite the Owl, the Flamingo, the Raven, the Hummingbird or today’s Loon?

My favorite is the raven. I love Ravens. I think the design of the dress resembles a Spanish flamenco dress. I have enjoyed this week’s theme of masquerade ball gowns. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Thank you.
The Raven is one of my favorites.
This loon is beautiful! When I lived in northern New Hampshire, sometimes we’d see these on the lakes. I love this whole series! Make more gowns 🙂
Yeah, people have reacted strongly to these which is interesting.
This dress is so beautiful! My grandparents grew up in Minnesota 🙂 and I’ve heard the story of “How the Moon gave the Loon its Neckring” so many times that when you said you were a loon, I couldn’t wait to see this! I love this dress – all of these dresses – and this series has been so exciting. Thank you 😀
lol, *you were drawing a loon. To my knowledge, you are not avian.
As far as you know… 🙂
I adore this loon, but I think my favorite is still the flamingo. Though this entire series makes me want to have a bird themed ball.
That’s fascinating to me, because the Flamingo is probably my least favorite, but I am super glad you like her.
For me, it’s a toss up between the loon and the owl. I prefer the loon’s boots, but I prefer the owl’s mask/wig. So it’ll probably depend on if I’m in a black mood or a brown mood. Today I’m in more of a brown mood, so owl it is.
Yeah, I can’t decide how to pick out a favorite.
this is my new favorite! i lived in the land of the loons for a decade and i love them! : D
It’s one of my favorites. It came out just like I imagined it. You know how that works sometimes when you make art.
All these are so lovely but I think my favorite would be the owl with her layers.
The owl was the first one I designed, so it still holds a soft place in my heart.
Love these 🙂 just one thing when i click on the black and white PDF link it says it is not there 🙂
Hmmm… It works for me. Try clearing your cache.
I love this!! I was googling for loon costume ideas and there aren’t a whole lot out there but this is genius!! THANK YOU!
Loons are one of my absolute favorite animals. I fell in love with them on a remote part of Georgian Bay growing up (granite and pines and water– the one place in the world that I’m most homesick for). Later on I realized that I also love them because they require pristine and QUIET wilderness– they are so sensitive that even a quiet canoe can scare them off the nest. And that’s exactly how I feel as an autistic person– I need more quiet than most. I need loon habitat!
