I had to make a tough call today.
I was working on my Marisole Monday paper doll, coloring the set, and I just didn’t like it. It was 8pm on Sunday night when I decided this. Now sometimes when I decide I hate things, I finish them anyway, but this set is for the one of the winners of my drawing and I would feel horrible giving as a drawing prize, as set I didn’t like.
So, instead, here are some doodles for future Marisole Monday & Friends sets.
All right, I hope everything enjoys these doodles. There will be a real paper doll tomorrow (an Ms. Mannequin post, I think) and something on Thursday as well. 🙂
If you’d rather get an email when the site updates, just stick your email in the upper left corner of the sidebar and you’ll get an email each time I do a new post.
love the doodles! Career dolls are tough. I’m finishing up a doll right now all about growing up. I wanted a blend of “girly” aspirations (bride, mommy, etc) and awesome things that girls should absolutely aspire towards (astronaut, chef, business woman). So few careers have strong visual icons and I think your attempts are great. Can’s wait to see it!
Thanks Julie. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m not trying to be rude, but … I don’t really like glasses! I’m really exited for Summer Showers, but not so much for her glasses. Maybe (if you can fit it) you could make another doll on it without glasses….. Just a thought!! 🙂
You’re not being rude. You can like or dislike anything you want about any paper doll I make and as long as you’re polite about telling me, I’m always happy to get criticism good and bad. The thing to remember about the doodles is that they are draft ideas. Most of these won’t appear looking like this on the blog, they’ll get redrawn, refined and sometimes abandoned.
As for the glasses, I know some readers don’t like glasses. Other readers don’t like blond hair or don’t like freckles, but I want to draw as many different kinds of paper dolls as I can, so people can see themselves in the paper dolls. I haven’t done glasses in a while which is why I’m thinking about doing some for Marisole in the new year. And if you don’t want the doll to have glasses, all the Marisoles, Margots and Mias can share clothes, so there’s sure to be a paper doll who can wear the clothing whose glasses free.
