Today’s Printable Paper Doll Inspirations: Say Yes to the Dress and Gowns Like This One or This One or This One
One of my guilty pleasures is the show, Say Yes to the Dress. I thought I would have to give it up when I gave up cable, but fortunately, you can watch it on Hulu and who doesn’t want to watch insane bridal gowns on TV?
This only important because the show was on when I came up with the idea of doing a ruched paper doll evening gown like today’s for Marisole Monday & Friends lady paper dolls.
I will openly confess that I didn’t want to do a paper doll wedding dress, so I chose a lavender color for today’s paper doll evening gown. I’m just not a big wedding dress person, even though I like the show. Even as a kid, I was never one of those people who imagined my own wedding day. Don’t get me wrong, I cry at every wedding, but it was never part of my imaginary world as a kid.
Now, I did totally imagine being at a ball as a kid. So, red carpet paper doll gowns was much more up my alley.

I used to love weddings and wedding gowns, but there’s so much greed in so many of todays brides and their weddings, that I admit, I just don’t get the same enjoyment out of it. I just feel a wedding shouldn’t be all about showing off how much money you can waste. :-/
Evening gowns, though, the fancier the better! Ball gowns, red carpet gowns, I adore them!
Plus I forgot to say thank you! lol! Love today’s gown. all that lavender ruching is gorgeous! And the matching purse is adorable!
Yeah, I do think weddings have gotten a little weird, but I also think there’s really only one time in your life that you get to wear a gown like that anymore, so I say go for it. And you’re welcome. I’m glad you like it. 🙂
I was never into dolls much, paper or otherwise, growing up. I follow your blog now for my daughters who LOVE playing with paper dolls and I’m fascinated with the way they do so. Every doll has a name and a role to play in their imaginary world and while their dolls are often about to marry or just married I don’t think they are ever actually playing “wedding”. Balls do take place, often in a Cinderella-maneuver to find the right prince, yet I’m surprised that they choose their paper dolls based on the beautiful clothing that accompany them, but almost always role-play more mundane events. Their dolls have children, catch the flu, go on vacation, work, and visit friends. The events are often dramatic (measles epidemics are common, for instance), but despite their fancy clothes the balls apparently are only the means to the end (catch a suitable husband) and then the real story line begins.
I always picked paper dolls based on the beautiful clothing they had when I was kid. In fact, one of the reasons my dolls can share clothing is how annoyed I would get as a child when the doll I liked the best (usually the redhead) couldn’t wear the dress I liked the best, because they had two different poses. 🙂 I’m so glad your daughters enjoy the paper dolls.
