Lillies & Birds: A Printable Paper Doll Coloring Page

lilliesandbirds-logo-bwThe trouble of posting from paper doll backlog, is that sometimes I get to the point where I’ve drawn something so many weeks ago that I have no real recollection of what I was thinking or planning when I designed whatever it is. This is one of those sets. I remember drawing it, but I don’t remember much about this set except worrying about drawing the lily flowers on her skirt and hat.

I decided I tend to always draw the same flowers and I wanted to try something different.

Beyond that, I feel like I can’t say much.

Margot is showing off this set. I feel rather bad for Margot, since she hasn’t gotten a set since April when she was a Tudor lady. I think it is just that she got a LOT of love at the beginning of the year and then very little for the rest of the year.

Anyway, this is the last Margot set for 2015. The year is wrapping up my friends. 🙂

As always, if you have thoughts, please share them in the comments and if you like the paper dolls than consider supporting them through Patreon.

Also, there’s going to be a really fun Q&A on Wednesday with a special guest from Dover publishing. I’ve been waiting to publish this for weeks. 🙂

  1. love the birds on the dress ~ and the musical instrument! also really love her freckles. nice touch!

one of the things i’m trying to do is actually draft my posts as i complete things, even if they just sit in the queue for weeks. that way the content is still fresh, even if i have to revise it before posting. i agree with you otherwise: you can forget the inspiration after the fact!

    • Yeah, when I’m on the ball I at least try to note my inspiration and sources (esp. for historical sets), but um… not so much with being on the ball here. 🙂

  2. I love this set! The birds are outstanding!

I have the dolls printed out for your ATCs, and will have a chance to work on painting them after the holiday on Thursday I hope. I am so excited to be doing something especially for you!

      • There I go making assumptions! I get frustrated drawing patterns so I use Photoshop and Illustrator as much as possible to make it easier.

Your patterns are so well placed I assumed there was tech involved!

        • Well, there is tech involved. I draw a single motif and then I duplicate it using photoshop and then manually place the motifs onto the garment where-ever I want them to go.

What I don’t use is the photoshop pattern fill features. I have used them before, but I find I don’t like the results as much as when I do it manually.

Hmm… Maybe something to make a tutorial about one day. 🙂

  3. Your use of the instrument is a great addition! The hats are gorgeous and flowers on the skirt drape add a wonderful historic touch. Just love everything about these dresses and am eager to see them in color!
